christian's poems

on our first date almost two years ago,
Christian showed up at my door with a single red rose and piece of paper in hand.
although unnecessary, i thought that it was incredibly charming that he came to my door not-empty-handed.
i smelled the rose and then said, "it's beautiful, thank you! what's on the paper?"
we walked to the car and as we drove away he let me read a short poem he had written me.
i laughed at the witty lines in his poem, thinking how funny he was and i could tell how hard he had tried to make it clever,
being a very manly man who i'm sure had never just sat down and wrote a poem to let out his feelings.
i loved it. it sits on our bulletin board still.

along with a few others. every once in a while, Chin will write me a "date poem," talking about our evening planned and saying quirky and funny things that make me love a little bit more every time i read them.

last night was one of those nights. we headed up to Salt Lake for a wedding, and then  laid under the stars at Temple Square, talking and thinking and holding hands, and the beautiful temple in front of us reminding us of how lucky we are to have found each other.

he nicely agreed to let me share his poem for last night with you...
:)

To My Dear Wife Hayley,

Tonight is a special night, long foretold
We tried on Monday but put it on hold
Tuesday we were tired, withered, and cold
So tonight is the night and I will be bold!

I ask for your company on a special date
To Salt Lake City where two have sealed their fate
A wedding reception won’t keep us out too late
Pretty pretty please, I won’t make you wait

For you I would walk over a mile
If you go with me I promise it’ll be worth your while
I’ll give you rubies, gold and diamonds in a huge pile
I will be goofy and charming and make you smile!

Just please say yes
And wear a dress
And so will I J

Love,
Chin

P.S. Just kidding about the dress that would be messed up,
But you can be my consultant and help me get dressed up!

a poorly cropped (on my part) picture from the photobooth at the wedding last night.

i didn't end up getting rubies, gold, and diamonds... but on the other hand, Chin didn't wear a dress.
win win.

happy weekend!
